The Institute of Indology was designed to house ancient manuscripts, a research centre and eventually, a museum. Here, the building’s two stories, high plinth, and full-length veranda are all components of traditional Indian buildings, and lighting, temperature and humidity levels were considered to preserve the ancient artifacts stored inside.
Although the architecture of this project can be aptly defined as part of the modernist movement in India, there remains a brutalist echo of the surreal structures seen in science-fiction. Sine this project is widely photographed, my documentation aimed to see it as part of a fictional story – a brutal bunker in a dystopian landscape.
