Amdavad Ni Gufa is a collaborative project between architect B.V. Doshi – who designed the structure – and painter M.F. Husain. A sub-terranean structure, the gallery represents a unique juxtaposition of architecture and art.

Due to the organic and irregular nature of the structure, photographing it is an artistic endeavour. In my lens, the Gufa resembles the cave of our ancestors, an underground structure with cave-painting like images shrouded on all walls. From above ground, it seems like a serpent with mosaic skin, whose large open mouth serves as the entrance to the structure. The images also allude to this metaphor, by using wide-angle lenses to make the structure feel like a snake who is eating the viewer.
